Massey Ferguson 0.0.30 – Dash: Issue With Alternator Charging Voltage (Dash)
Issue description
This code indicates that the charging voltage coming from the alternator is outside the expected parameters (typically dropping below 13.5V or spiking above 15V). The system detects that the alternator is either failing to charge the battery adequately or is overcharging it, which can lead to battery drain, electrical accessory malfunction, or damage to the electrical system.

Check the cause
Battery Load Test: Test the battery's resting voltage (should be ~12.6V). Perform a load test to ensure the battery doesn't have a dead cell that is dragging the charging voltage down.
Charging Voltage Test: Start the tractor and measure the voltage across the battery terminals with a multimeter. A healthy alternator should output between 13.8V and 14.4V. If it reads over 16V, the alternator's internal voltage regulator is blown and requires immediate replacement to prevent battery destruction.
Belt Inspection: Check the alternator drive belt (V-belt) for proper tension, glazing, or severe wear. A slipping belt will cause undercharging.
Wiring & Connections: Inspect the heavy-gauge wire running from the alternator to the battery, as well as the wiring harness connector at the alternator. Look for loose connections, blown fuses, or corrosion, and clean with electrical contact cleaner.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable to prevent short circuits.
Remove the Drive Belt
Locate the belt tensioner. Use a wrench to relieve the tension and slip the V-belt off the alternator pulley.
Disconnect Wiring
Remove the rubber boot from the main power terminal on the alternator and unbolt the B+ cable. Unplug the voltage regulator/signal harness connector.
Unbolt the Alternator
Remove the upper and lower mounting bolts securing the alternator to the engine bracket. Carefully extract the heavy unit from the engine bay.
Install the New Alternator
Position the new alternator into the mounting bracket and hand-tighten the mounting bolts.
Reinstall the Belt
Route the drive belt back over the pulleys, relieve the tensioner, and slip the belt over the new alternator pulley. Ensure the belt is seated correctly in all pulley grooves, then torque the alternator mounting bolts to spec.
Reconnect Wiring
Reattach the B+ cable and plug in the signal harness.
Test
Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the tractor and verify with a multimeter that the charging voltage is now stable between 13.8V and 14.4V. Ensure the Dash warning light and 0.0.30 code clear.
