Massey Ferguson 0.1.31 – Dash (Instrument Panel / Cluster): Issue With Signal Voltage From Fuel Level Sensor Voltage (Dash)
Issue description
The instrument cluster is receiving an electrical signal from the fuel tank's level sender unit that falls outside the expected voltage parameters. This typically indicates an open circuit (broken wire), a short to ground, a short to power, or a complete internal failure of the fuel level sensor itself.

Check the cause
Turn the key to the ON position and observe if the fuel gauge is completely dead (empty), pegged at full, or bouncing erratically
Locate the fuel level sensor on the top of the fuel tank and inspect the wiring harness and connector for corrosion, dirt ingress, or wires that have rubbed through against the chassis
Disconnect the sensor and use a multimeter to check the continuity of the signal wire and the ground wire from the sensor connector back to the dashboard harness
Measure the resistance across the pins of the fuel level sensor. Sweep the float arm up and down; the resistance should change smoothly without any dead spots or infinite resistance (open circuit) readings
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Drain Fuel (If Necessary)
Ensure the fuel level in the tank is below the mounting point of the sensor to prevent spillage.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the top of the fuel tank around the sensor to prevent dirt and agricultural debris from falling into the fuel system.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.
Remove the Sensor
Unscrew the retaining ring or remove the mounting bolts holding the sensor to the tank. Carefully pull the sensor straight up, angling it as needed to extract the float arm without bending it.
Install the New Sensor
Insert the new sensor and float arm into the tank. Always use a new rubber gasket or O-ring to ensure a proper seal.
Reassembly
Tighten the retaining ring/bolts to OEM torque specs. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Test
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition ON, and verify that the fuel gauge registers the correct fuel level and that fault code 0.1.31 can be cleared or moves to an "inactive" state.
