Massey Ferguson 0.2.39 – Dash: Issue With Signal Voltage From Clutch Pedal Sensor, High Voltage (Dash)

Issue description

The controller is receiving a voltage reading from the clutch pedal sensor (potentiometer) that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This typically indicates a short circuit to power (+12V), an open ground circuit in the sensor wiring, or an internal failure of the sensor itself.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the battery is fully charged (around 12.6V) and the alternator is not overcharging, as electrical power issues can trigger false sensor codes.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness at the clutch pedal box for wire rub points, pinched wires, or corrosion in the connector that could cause a short to power or an open ground.

  3. Connect a diagnostic laptop with Wintest software (or an equivalent dealer tool) to monitor the live voltage sweep of the clutch pedal sensor as it is depressed. If the voltage is pegged high and does not change, the circuit is shorted or the sensor is dead.

  4. Check the integrity of the Bottom of Clutch (BOC) switch located in the same pedal box, as it frequently causes loss-of-drive and dash errors.

Repair steps

  1. Attempt Calibration First

    If the tractor is experiencing harsh/jumpy clutch engagement but the sensor is not completely dead, performing a clutch pedal calibration procedure via the dash can sometimes resolve the issue without parts replacement.

  2. Access the Pedal Box

    If calibration fails or the circuit is shorted, disconnect the tractor's battery and access the clutch pedal box assembly in the cab.

  3. Replace the Sensor/Switch

    Disconnect the electrical pigtail from the clutch pedal sensor (potentiometer). Unbolt the faulty sensor from the pedal linkage and install the new OEM sensor. Optional but recommended: If the Bottom of Clutch (BOC) switch is sticking or damaged, replace it at the same time, as it is a known high-failure item.

  4. Reassembly and Calibration

    Reconnect the wiring harness and battery. Clear the fault codes from the Dash controller. If the main clutch potentiometer was replaced, you must run a clutch pedal calibration. (If only the BOC switch was replaced, no additional programming or calibration is required).
