Massey Ferguson 0.2.49 – Dash: CAN BUS Message Issue From EEM Engine Module (Dash)
Issue description
Communication failure on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN bus). Specifically, the dashboard is either not receiving messages from the Electronic Engine Module (EEM) or the messages being received are corrupted/invalid.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- 5710SL
- 5711SL
- 5712SL
- 5713SL
- T4
- T4 emissions-equipped models (Years 2017–2023)
Check the cause
Ensure the tractor's battery is fully charged and the alternator is outputting correct voltage, as low voltage can cause modules to drop off the CAN network.
Visually inspect the wiring harness running between the EEM and the Dash for chafing, pinched wires, or heat damage.
Disconnect the harnesses at both the EEM and the Dash to check for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or moisture intrusion.
With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins to verify the integrity of the terminating resistors (typically should read around 60 ohms if both 120-ohm resistors are intact).
Repair steps
Repair or replace wiring
Repair or replace any damaged sections of the CAN wiring harness.
Clean and grease pins
Clean and apply dielectric grease to corroded connector pins at the EEM or Dash.
Replace faulty module
If the wiring and power/grounds to both modules test perfectly, the fault may lie internally within either the EEM or the Dash cluster, requiring module replacement and reprogramming by a dealer.
