Massey Ferguson 0.2.5E – Dash: Issue With Signal Voltage From Front Axle Steering Sensor High Voltage

The Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) located on the front axle is sending a voltage signal back to the controller that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. A high voltage reading typically points to a short circuit to power (12V) in the sensor wiring, a failed sensor internal potentiometer, or a compromised ground connection.

   Inspect the front axle steering sensor (WAS) housing for physical damage, moisture, and dust intrusion.

   Disconnect the sensor and check the pins for corrosion, water ingress, or bent terminals. Test the signal wire for a short to a 12V power source.

   Check if the WAS sensor ground line is spliced into the same ground as the front suspension coils. If so, run a separate, dedicated ground wire from the sensor to the stainless steel ground plate under the cab (do not run it directly to the negative battery terminal).

   Park the tractor on a level surface, center the steering, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Locate the front axle steering sensor (X235) on the front axle assembly.

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.

   Remove the mounting hardware and the wheel steering sensor support bracket.

   Install the new steering sensor into the support bracket and secure it to the axle.

   Torque the mounting hardware to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the weather seal is fully seated to prevent future moisture intrusion.

   Perform a steering angle sensor calibration via the tractor's diagnostic interface (Dash/CCD).

   This is strictly required for the Auto-Guide/GPS auto-steer systems and electronic implement controls to function accurately.
