00.0.40

Massey Ferguson 00.0.40 – Dash Module: CAN BUS Message Issue (Dash)

Issue description

Communication failure on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. The dashboard is either failing to broadcast its status or is not receiving expected data messages from other control units on the network.

Check the cause

  1. Check battery and ground connections for low voltage, dead battery, or corroded cables

  2. Inspect main power fuses and specific fuses routing power to the instrument cluster

  3. Inspect wiring harness connectors at the rear of the dash module for moisture, bent pins, or corrosion

  4. Perform a global network scan with a diagnostic tool to check if other modules are logging CAN bus errors

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Always disconnect the negative battery cable before working on the tractor's electrical system to prevent short circuits.

  2. Access the Dash Module

Remove the steering column shrouds and surrounding trim panels to access the instrument cluster retaining screws.

  3. Disconnect and Inspect

Carefully pull the dash panel forward and unplug the main electrical connectors. Inspect the CAN High and CAN Low pins specifically.

  4. Clean Contacts

If moisture or light corrosion is present, clean the pins and the harness plug with a dedicated electrical contact cleaner. Apply dielectric grease to the seal (not the pins) to prevent future moisture ingress.

  5. Test the Network

Using a multimeter, test the CAN bus wiring for continuity and verify the network resistance (a healthy CAN bus typically reads around 60 ohms across CAN High and CAN Low with the battery disconnected).

  6. Repair or Replace

If the wiring is damaged, repair the harness. If the wiring, power, and grounds are all perfect, the internal CAN transceiver inside the Dash module has likely failed. The cluster will need to be sent to an agricultural electronics specialist for internal board repair or replaced entirely.

  7. Reassembly and Clearing Codes

Reinstall the dash module, reconnect the battery, and use a compatible diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest or AGCO EDT) to clear the fault codes and verify that CAN communication has been restored.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Instrument Panel / Dash Module
