Massey Ferguson 00.0.41 – Dash: Tractor Forward Speed Is Too Fast (Dash)

The tractor's electronic system is receiving a forward speed signal that exceeds the maximum plausible or allowed speed for the machine. This is typically caused by a malfunctioning transmission input/output shaft speed sensor, a faulty road speed sensor, damaged wiring, or a calibration error. When the sensor fails or sends erratic high-frequency signals, the computer misinterprets it as an over-speed condition.

   Connect the tractor to the Wintest or EDT diagnostics software and check the live data for the forward speed sensor. If values are correct and stable, the sensor is likely not the issue.

   Test the sensor manually using a multimeter if Wintest detects an incorrect value, no value, or an intermittent signal.

   Measure the resistance value of the sensor while the tractor is stationary. If the resistance is out of specification (open or shorted), the sensor has failed internally.

   Check the two-pin connector (Pin 1: Signal, Pin 2: Earth) at the sensor for moisture, corrosion, or physical damage.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical damage.

   Locate the Sensor

   The forward/road speed sensor is typically mounted on the transmission housing or input shaft area, accessible from underneath the tractor.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the sensor mounting area and the electrical connector to prevent dirt from entering the transmission housing when the sensor is removed.

   Remove the Sensor

   Unplug the wiring harness and unthread/unbolt the faulty speed sensor.

   Install the New Sensor

   Install the replacement sensor. If it is an adjustable inductive sensor, ensure the sensor gap is set correctly according to the service manual.

   Reconnect and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the wiring harness and the battery. Use a diagnostic scan tool or the dash menu to clear the 00.0.41 fault code.

   Test Drive

   Operate the tractor to verify that the speedometer reads accurately and the transmission shifts smoothly without throwing the code again.
