Massey Ferguson 00.0.4C – Dash (Instrument Panel) module: Issue With Signal From Outside Air Temperature Sensor
Issue description
The controller is receiving an implausible voltage signal from the ambient air temperature sensor (X358). The underlying condition is typically an open circuit, a short circuit to ground, a short circuit to power, or a completely failed sensor.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the outside air temperature sensor (X358) and its 2-pin oval connector for physical damage, dirt ingress, or severe corrosion.
Trace the wiring harness from the sensor back toward the Dash module. Look for chafed wires, pinched lines, or loose connections. Test the lines for continuity, shorts to ground, and shorts to power.
Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance across the two pins using a multimeter. A healthy sensor reads around 5,000 Ohms (5kΩ) at room temperature. Infinite resistance (open) or zero resistance (shorted) indicates a dead sensor.
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor ignition and remove the key.
Locate the faulty ambient air temperature sensor (X358).
Depress the locking tab on the 2-pin oval electrical connector and carefully unplug it from the sensor.
Remove the old sensor.
This specific sensor utilizes a 'pressed' mounting type, meaning it is held in place by friction clips rather than threaded bolts. Gently pry or pull it out of its mounting bracket.
Press the new replacement sensor firmly into the mounting hole until it seats securely.
Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.
Turn the ignition on and clear the 00.0.4C fault code.
Use the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu (via the Dash) or a dealer diagnostic tool to clear the code.
Verify the repair by checking that the outside temperature displays correctly on the instrument panel.
