Massey Ferguson 00.00.31 – Dash: Issue With Signal Voltage From Fuel Level Sensor (Dash)

The system is detecting an irregular, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal voltage coming from the fuel tank's level sending unit. This typically results in an erratic fuel gauge, a gauge stuck on empty/full, or a low fuel warning light staying illuminated.

   Check Fuses: Inspect the fuse box for any blown fuses related to the dashboard or instrument cluster.

   Wiring & Connector Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the fuel tank sending unit to the Dash module. Look for chafed wires, broken connections, or corrosion inside the sensor's electrical plug.

   Multimeter Testing: Disconnect the fuel level sensor and use a multimeter to test the resistance (Ohms) across the sensor's terminals. The resistance should change smoothly as the float arm moves. If the multimeter reads an open circuit (OL) or erratic jumps in resistance, the sensor is internally faulty.

   Voltage Supply Check: With the key turned to the ON position, check the harness connector for reference voltage coming from the Dash to ensure the circuit is intact.

   Prep the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent sparks near the fuel tank.

   Access the Sensor

   Locate the fuel level sending unit on the top or upper side of the diesel fuel tank. You may need to remove protective shielding or step panels depending on the exact tractor model.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.

   Remove the Old Sensor

   Clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt from falling into the tank. Remove the retaining screws or the locking ring holding the sensor in place, and carefully pull the sensor and float arm out of the tank.

   Install the New Sensor

   Insert the new fuel level sensor into the tank, ensuring the float arm has free movement and the rubber gasket/O-ring is seated properly to prevent fuel leaks. Secure it with the retaining screws or locking ring.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the electrical plug and reinstall any removed panels.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition to the ON position, and verify that the fuel gauge reads the correct fuel level and the 00.00.31 fault code clears.
