Massey Ferguson 00.00.4A – Dash (Instrument Cluster / Dashboard Controller): CAN BUS Message Issue From EEM (Dash)

Communication failure on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. The dashboard is failing to receive expected data messages from the Electronic Engine Management (EEM) module. This is typically caused by a physical wiring issue (short circuit or open circuit) or a poor connection on the CAN bus network linking these two modules.

   Save the error log and erase it using the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT), then restart the ECU/tractor to check if the fault was an intermittent glitch.

   Visually inspect the CAN bus wiring harness routing from the engine compartment (EEM) to the cab (Dash) for chafing, pinch points, or heat damage.

   Check for bad connections, loose pins, or moisture intrusion at the EEM connectors and the back of the Dash instrument cluster.

   Use a multimeter to check the CAN bus for short circuits (CAN High to CAN Low, or either to ground/power).

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access Modules

   Remove the necessary cowling to access the EEM (usually mounted on or near the engine block) and remove the dashboard trim to access the rear of the instrument cluster.

   Isolate the Harness

   Disconnect the main harness connectors at both the EEM and the Dash.

   Test Continuity

   Pin out the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the two disconnected plugs. Repair any broken wires or replace the damaged section of the cab/engine wiring harness.

   Clean Contacts

   Spray the connector pins on both the modules and the harness with a high-quality electronic contact cleaner. Ensure no pins are pushed back into the plastic housings.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the harnesses to the EEM and Dash. Reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Turn the key to the ON position. Connect the AGCO EDT diagnostic tool and clear the 00.00.4A fault code. Start the tractor to verify the warning lamp remains off and dashboard gauges (RPM, temp, etc.) are receiving data.
