Massey Ferguson 00.01.30 – Dash: Issue With Alternator Charging (Dash)

The system has detected that the alternator is either undercharging or overcharging, failing to provide the correct voltage to maintain the battery and power the electrical systems.

   Test battery voltage with the engine off using a multimeter (should read around 12.6V). Charge and load-test if low.

   Test alternator output by starting the engine, increasing to at least 1000 RPM, and testing voltage at the battery (should be 13.8V - 14.2V).

   Inspect the alternator/fan drive belt for slack, wear, or damage that could cause slipping.

   Inspect battery terminals, cables, and alternator load circuit connections for corrosion or looseness.

   Check the fuse box for any blown fuses related to the charging system or dash.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Remove the Belt

   Relieve tension on the fan/alternator drive belt using the belt tensioner, and slip the belt off the alternator pulley.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Carefully disconnect the electrical harness and the main charge wire from the back of the alternator.

   Remove the Alternator

   Unbolt the alternator mounting bolts and remove the faulty unit from the engine bracket.

   Install the New Alternator

   Position the new alternator and hand-thread the mounting bolts. Tighten everything to the required OEM torque specifications.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the electrical wiring to the new alternator. Route the drive belt back over the pulleys and apply the correct tension. (Note: If the belt is worn, replace it now).

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and verify with a multimeter that the charging voltage is back in the 13.8V - 14.2V range and that the dash warning light has cleared.
