00.01.4A

Massey Ferguson 00.01.4A – Dash: CAN BUS Message Issue From EEM

Issue description

Indicates a communication failure where the instrument panel is either not receiving or cannot properly interpret the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus messages being broadcast by the engine's control module.

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying CAN bus-related codes (such as D 164 or 142) to isolate if the CAN bus is down entirely or just failing at the Dash

  2. Inspect the CAN bus wiring between the EEM controller and the vehicle Dash for short circuits between CAN lines or open circuits

  3. Measure the CAN terminator resistance on the network (typically measured at 120 Ohms ± 10% with the battery disconnected)

  4. Verify that the EEM is receiving proper power and ground, as an unpowered EEM cannot transmit CAN messages

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical damage during testing.

  2. Inspect Connectors

Locate the wiring harness connectors at both the Dash panel and the EEM. Disconnect them and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pins that have been pushed back into the connector housing.

  3. Test Continuity

Using a multimeter, perform a continuity test on the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the EEM and the Dash.

  4. Repair Wiring

If an open circuit or a short (to ground, to power, or between the two CAN lines) is found, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness or replace the harness.

  5. Clean and Reconnect

If the wiring tests good, clean the connector contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease if specified by OEM, and securely reconnect the modules.

  6. Module Testing/Replacement

Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes, and cycle the ignition. If code 00.01.4A returns immediately and the wiring is 100% intact, the fault lies internally within either the EEM (failing to transmit) or the Dash (failing to receive). Note: If testing with a donor EEM from another tractor, be aware that a serial number mismatch with the injection pump will trigger an immobilizer/mismatch code (e.g., FC 175). Dealer software (EEM Service Tool) is required to couple a new EEM to the injection pump.
