Massey Ferguson 00.01.4C – Dash (Instrument Panel / Dashboard Control Module): Issue With Signal From Outside Air Temperature Sensor (Dash)

The instrument panel is receiving an implausible, missing, or out-of-range voltage signal from the ambient/outside air temperature sensor. This is usually caused by an open circuit, a short circuit to ground, or a short circuit to positive in the sensor itself or its wiring harness.

   Visually inspect the outside air temperature sensor (mounted near the front grille, cab exterior, or air intake), its 2-pin oval connector, and the wiring harness for physical damage, corrosion, moisture ingress, or broken wires.

   Perform a sensor resistance test by unplugging the sensor and testing with a multimeter. The NTC thermistor should read approximately 5000 Ohms (5kΩ) at room temperature (25°C / 77°F). An open circuit or dead short indicates internal failure.

   Perform a wiring continuity test to check the voltage supply and ground continuity from the Dash module to the sensor connector to rule out a broken wire.

   Turn off the tractor ignition, remove the key, and engage the parking brake.

   Locate the ambient air temperature sensor on the exterior of the cab or front grille assembly.

   Depress the locking tab on the 2-pin oval electrical connector and carefully pull it away from the sensor.

   Gently pry or unclip the faulty sensor from its mounting bracket.

   The sensor utilizes a "pressed" or clip-in mounting style.

   Snap the new replacement sensor securely into the mounting hole.

   Reconnect the 2-pin electrical connector, ensuring the weather seal is intact and the plug clicks into place.

   Turn the ignition on and verify that the outside temperature is now displaying correctly on the dash.

   The fault code should move to a "stored" or "inactive" state, allowing you to clear it from the Dash module using the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu or a diagnostic scan tool.
