Massey Ferguson 00.01.4E – Dash: Issue With Steering Valve Mounted On Steering Orbitrol Unit

This indicates an electrical or functional anomaly detected in the steering valve/solenoid that is mounted directly to the hydrostatic steering orbitrol unit.

   Inspect the steering valve solenoid connector for corrosion or loose pins, check the wiring harness for rub points, verify coil resistance on the valve solenoid, and ensure ground integrity.

   Verify that the hydraulic system has enough fluid and ensure there is no air trapped in the lines (purge air by constantly moving the steering wheel lock-to-lock while filling).

   Use a diagnostic scanner to read live data from the Dash module to confirm if the voltage or signal to the steering valve is out of range, missing, or shorted.

   Do Not Disassemble in the Field

   Do not dismantle the orbitrol unit yourself unless you have specialized tools, as it is a highly sensitive hydrostatic component.

   Timing and Seals

   Be aware that the timing of the orbitrol is crucial during reassembly; if reassembled incorrectly, the steering will not function. Fitting new seals also requires special tools.

   Replacement or Shop Repair

   Send the unit to a specialized hydraulic service shop for initial pressure checks and rebuilding, or replace the entire orbitrol steering unit as a complete assembly.

   Installation

   When installing a new unit, ensure the hydraulic lines are clean to prevent contamination, connect the M18 x 1.5 inlet fittings securely, and bleed the hydraulic steering system thoroughly.
