Massey Ferguson 00.01.5E – Dash (Instrument Panel): Issue With Signal Voltage From Front Axle Steering Sensor

The signal voltage returning from the Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) / Front Axle Steering Sensor is out of the expected range (either too high or too low), which can disable Auto-Guide (auto-steering) and affect 4WD/differential lock automated functions.

   Locate the Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) mounted on the right side behind the front axle and visually inspect the sensor, bracket, and linkage for physical damage or debris.

   Inspect connector X235 for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

   Test the signal voltage and ground line, specifically checking for voltage spikes caused by the factory ground splice shared with the front suspension coils.

   Address the Grounding Issue

   If the sensor tests fine but the voltage spikes intermittently, bypass the factory ground splice. Run a separate, dedicated ground wire from the WAS sensor directly to the stainless steel ground plate located under the cab. Do not run this wire directly back to the negative terminal of the battery.

   Replace the Sensor

   If faulty, disconnect the X235 wiring harness from the sensor. Unbolt the sensor bracket and disconnect the ball joints/tie rod bracket connecting it to the axle. Install the new Wheel Angle Sensor and reattach the mechanical linkage.

   Calibration

   After replacing the sensor or modifying the wiring, turn the key on, clear the inactive fault codes from the Dash, and perform a steering angle calibration procedure via the tractor's control center display to ensure the center, full-left, and full-right parameters are relearned.
