Massey Ferguson 00.02.3F – Dash Module: CAN BUS Message Issue (Dash)

A communication failure on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus, specifically where the instrument panel is either failing to send or receive expected messages from other control modules (such as the Engine ECU or Transmission controller).

   Verify battery voltage and alternator charging voltage. Low or spiking voltage can cause modules to drop off the CAN bus.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear of the dash for chafing, pinched wires, or rodent damage.

   Check the multi-pin connectors at the back of the instrument panel. Look for loose pins, moisture ingress, or corrosion.

   With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic port or dash connector. A healthy CAN bus with two intact terminating resistors should read approximately 60 ohms. A reading of 120 ohms indicates an open circuit or a missing terminating resistor.

   Look for other active codes (e.g., Engine or Transmission communication faults) that might indicate the CAN bus is being pulled down by a different module.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.

   Access the Dash

   Remove the steering column shrouds and dashboard trim panels to access the rear of the instrument cluster.

   Clean and Reseat

   Disconnect the main harness from the dash. Clean the contacts with a high-quality electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Reconnect and test the tractor to see if the code clears.

   Repair Wiring

   If the CAN resistance test failed, trace the CAN High and CAN Low wires from the dash to the main harness splice. Repair any broken wires using proper soldering and heat-shrink tubing.

   Replace the Dash Module

   If the wiring, voltage, and connectors are all in good condition but the dash still fails to communicate, the internal CAN transceiver in the instrument panel has likely failed. The dash module will need to be replaced.

   Reprogramming

   Note that installing a new instrument panel may require dealer-level software (AGCO EDT) to configure the dash to the tractor's specific transmission and options, and to sync the service hour counter.
