Massey Ferguson 00.02.41 – Dash (Instrument Panel): Tractor Forward Speed Is Too Fast

This condition occurs when the system detects a forward speed signal from the transmission input shaft speed sensor that exceeds the plausible or programmed maximum limit for the machine. This is typically caused by a failing electronic speed sensor, an incorrect sensor air gap (too close or too far from the gear), or a wiring/connector issue sending erratic signals to the controller.

   Resistance Test: Turn the ignition off and disconnect the speed sensor. Using a multimeter, check the internal resistance across the sensor pins. At room temperature, a healthy sensor should read 450 ohms +/- 20 ohms. Ensure the multimeter pins make good contact.

   Sensor Gap Adjustment: Check the physical installation of the sensor. The fault can be triggered if the sensor has vibrated loose and is sitting too close to or too far away from the internal gear.

   Wiring & Connector Inspection: Check the wiring harness routing and the electrical connector for moisture, corrosion, or rub points that could cause a short or erratic signal.

   Live Data: If available, connect diagnostic software (such as Wintest) to monitor the live speed sensor data and verify if the signal is dropping out or spiking erratically.

   Prep the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical damage.

   Locate the Sensor

   The transmission input shaft speed sensor is typically accessible from underneath the tractor, mounted on the transmission housing.

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical connector. Unbolt and carefully pull the old sensor out of the housing.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the mounting port and surrounding area to ensure no dirt or debris falls into the transmission.

   Install the New Sensor

   Insert the replacement sensor. If the sensor depth is adjustable, ensure it is set to the correct gap relative to the gear. Tighten the mounting bolt.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal is intact. Reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Turn the ignition on and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 00.02.41 fault code from the Dash module. Test drive the tractor to ensure smooth shifting and accurate speedometer readings.
