Massey Ferguson 00.02.4A – Dash: CAN BUS Message Issue From EEM (Dash)

Communication failure on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN bus). Specifically, the Dashboard is either not receiving messages from the Engine Electronic Module (EEM) or the messages being received are corrupted or invalid.

   Check System Voltage: Verify the battery voltage is sufficient (must be above 11.5V) and check the alternator for proper charging. Low voltage can easily disrupt CAN bus communication.

   Inspect Wiring: Visually inspect the CAN bus wiring harness routed between the Engine Electronic Module (EEM) and the Dashboard. Look for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation.

   Check Connectors: Disconnect the harness at the EEM and the Dash. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-back pins.

   Test Power and Ground: Measure the voltage and ground supply directly at the EEM and the Dash connectors to ensure both modules are powering up correctly.

   Disconnect Power

   Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before performing electrical repairs to prevent short circuits.

   Clean Connections

   If corrosion is found at the EEM or Dash connectors, clean the pins thoroughly using a dedicated electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

   Repair Wiring

   If continuity testing reveals a break or short in the CAN bus lines (CAN High / CAN Low), repair the damaged section of the wiring harness using proper solder and heat-shrink tubing, or replace the harness section.

   Test the System

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic service tool to clear the stored fault codes.

   Module Replacement (If Necessary)

   If the wiring, power, and grounds are all verified as good but the code persists, the fault likely lies internally within the EEM or the Dash panel. You may need to test with a known-good module to isolate which unit has failed. Note that replacing an EEM usually requires dealer programming to match the injection pump serial number and tractor configuration.
