Massey Ferguson 00.02.5E – Dash (Instrument Panel): Issue With Signal Voltage From Front Axle Steering Sensor (Dash)

The instrument panel is receiving an electrical signal from the front axle steering sensor (Wheel Angle Sensor or WAS, component X235) that falls outside the expected voltage parameters. This usually points to an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to power, or a failed sensor potentiometer.

   Visually inspect the Wheel Angle Sensor (X235) mechanical linkage, tie rod bracket, and ball joints for bending, breakage, or disconnection.

   Inspect the sensor's electrical connector and wiring harness routing to the Dash for corrosion, moisture ingress, or chafed wires.

   Use a multimeter to verify the Dash is sending the correct reference voltage (typically 9.5V or 5V) to the sensor.

   Check the signal wire for continuity back to the Dash and ensure it is not shorted to ground or power.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, center the steering, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Removal

   Locate the Wheel Angle Sensor on the front axle. Disconnect the electrical harness connector.

   Dismounting

   Unbolt the sensor bracket and disconnect the mechanical ball joints/linkage from the axle. Remove the faulty sensor.

   Installation

   Mount the new Wheel Angle Sensor in the exact same orientation. Reattach the mechanical linkage and secure the mounting hardware.

   Reconnection

   Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor and reconnect the tractor's battery.

   Calibration

   Using the tractor's SIS (System Information Screen) or the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT), initiate the steering angle calibration procedure. You will be prompted to turn the steering wheel full-left, full-right, and back to center to lock in the new voltage values.
