Massey Ferguson 00.03.31 – Dash: Issue With Signal Voltage From Fuel Level Sensor (Dash)

The instrument cluster is receiving an out-of-range, erratic, or missing voltage signal from the fuel tank's level sender unit.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the fuel tank sensor and the dashboard for chafed wires, disconnected plugs, or rodent damage.

   Disconnect the fuel level sensor and measure the resistance (ohms) across its terminals; resistance should change smoothly as the float moves up and down.

   With the key in the 'ON' position, briefly ground the signal wire at the sensor connector to see if the dash gauge responds, confirming dash and wiring functionality.

   Verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage from the dash module.

   Preparation

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and clean the area around the top of the fuel tank to prevent dirt from falling into the fuel system.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical connector from the fuel level sensor.

   Clear Hoses

   If fuel return hoses or breather lines are routed over or connected near the sensor flange, mark them for correct installation and move them out of the way.

   Remove Sensor

   Unscrew the retaining ring or mounting bolts holding the sensor to the tank. Carefully pull the sensor and float assembly straight up and out of the tank.

   Install New Sensor

   Insert the new fuel level sensor assembly into the tank, ensuring the float arm has free movement and the rubber gasket/O-ring is properly seated to prevent leaks.

   Reassembly

   Tighten the mounting hardware, reconnect any fuel hoses, and plug in the electrical connector.

   Verification

   Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position and verify that the fuel gauge on the dash registers the correct fuel level and that fault code 00.03.31 is cleared or moves to an inactive state.
