00.03.4A

Massey Ferguson 00.03.4A – Dash (Instrument Cluster / Dashboard): CAN BUS Message Issue From EEM (Dash)

Issue description

There is a communication failure or an invalid data message being transmitted over the Controller Area Network (CAN bus) between the Engine Electronic Module (EEM) and the dashboard.

Applies to these machines

  • 7715
  • 7715S
  • 7716
  • 7716S
  • 7718
  • 7718S
  • 7719

  • 7720S
  • 7722
  • 7722S
  • 7724
  • 7724S
  • 7726
  • 7726S

  • 5712SL
  • 5713SL

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness that runs between the EEM and the Dash for physical damage, chafing, or corrosion

  2. Check the main harness connectors at both the Dash and the EEM for pushed-back pins, moisture ingress, or corrosion

  3. With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins (should read approximately 60 Ohms)

  4. Verify the battery voltage and alternator charging output, as low voltage to the dash can cause it to drop CAN communications

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the negative battery terminal before servicing the electrical system.

  2. Clean and Reseat Connectors

Disconnect the EEM and Dash connectors. Clean them with a dedicated electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Reseat the connectors firmly.

  3. Repair Wiring

If the continuity test reveals an open circuit or a short to ground on the CAN lines, trace the harness to find the break. Splice and solder the broken CAN wires, sealing them with heat-shrink tubing to prevent moisture intrusion.

  4. Module Replacement/Repair

If the wiring, terminating resistors, and power supply are all intact, the fault is likely an internal hardware failure in the Dash instrument cluster (or, less commonly, the EEM). The Dash will need to be removed and either sent to an agricultural electronics repair specialist or replaced with a new OEM unit.

  5. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes and verify that CAN communication has been restored.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Instrument Panel / Dash Cluster

    ACW123143C

AGCO Official Instrument Panel. Fits various Tier 4 Massey Ferguson models including the 5700, 6700, and 7700 series.

  • CAN Bus Wiring Harness / Connectors

Generic OEM harness sections (part numbers vary heavily based on the exact chassis and cab configuration; refer to the specific tractor's serial number in the AGCO parts catalog).
