Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connector between the Dash and the steering valve on the orbitrol unit for chafed wires, loose pins, or corrosion.
Verify that the Dash is sending the correct output/supply voltage to the steering valve.
Check the auxiliary hydraulic oil level and ensure there is adequate pressure.
Inspect the orbitrol unit for visible hydraulic leaks, physical damage to the solenoid/valve, or a stuck spool valve.
Repair steps
Depower the Tractor
Turn off the engine, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the Dash/steering circuits.
Access the Orbitrol Unit
Remove the lower steering column cowlings/panels inside the cab to access the orbitrol steering unit mounted at the base of the steering column.
Relieve Hydraulic Pressure
Ensure all hydraulic pressure in the auxiliary steering circuit is relieved before loosening any fittings.
Disconnect Electricals
Unplug the electrical connector from the steering valve mounted on the orbitrol unit.
Remove Hydraulic Lines
Mark the hydraulic lines (Pressure, Tank, Left, Right, and Load Sense if applicable) for proper reassembly, then disconnect them from the orbitrol unit. Cap the lines to prevent contamination.
Unbolt the Unit
Remove the mounting bolts securing the orbitrol unit to the steering column and remove the assembly.
Replace the Valve/Unit
Depending on the exact failure and part availability, replace the mounted steering valve solenoid or the entire orbitrol unit assembly.
Reassembly
Mount the new unit, reconnect the hydraulic lines to their correct ports, and plug in the electrical harness.
Bleed the System
Refill any lost hydraulic fluid. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock several times to bleed air from the hydrostatic steering system.
Clear Codes
Use the Dash Control Center or a diagnostic tool to clear the 00.03.4E fault code and verify that steering operates smoothly without throwing a new code.
