Issue description

The signal voltage coming from the front axle steering sensor (WAS or component X235) is out of the expected range (either too high or too low).

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the X235 Wheel Angle Sensor, linkage, and ball joints behind the front axle for physical damage or heavy debris.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the X235 sensor for chafing, breaks, or corrosion that could cause a short to ground, short to power, or open circuit.

  3. Check for a known grounding issue: verify if the sensor's ground line shares a ground with the front suspension coils, which can cause voltage spikes and interference (often seen as wheels twitching).

  4. Back-probe the sensor connector to verify it receives the correct reference voltage from the Dash and that the signal voltage smoothly transitions as the wheels are turned from lock to lock.

Repair steps

  1. Reroute the Ground

    If experiencing the known ground interference issue, disconnect the sensor's ground wire from the shared suspension coil ground. Run a dedicated, separate ground wire directly to the stainless steel ground plate located under the cab (do not run it directly to the negative battery terminal).

  2. Replace the Sensor

    If faulty, park the tractor on a level surface and center the steering. Disconnect the electrical harness from the X235 Wheel Angle Sensor. Unbolt the sensor bracket and disconnect the mechanical linkage/tie-rod bracket connecting it to the axle. Install the new sensor, ensuring the mechanical linkage is properly aligned so the sensor sits at its neutral/center voltage when the wheels are straight.

  3. Calibration

    After replacing the WAS sensor, recalibrate the steering angle via the tractor's Dash/Control Center Display so the system learns the new left-lock, right-lock, and center voltage values.

  4. Clear Codes

    Clear the 00.03.5E fault code from the Dash and test drive the tractor, ensuring 4WD and auto-guidance operate correctly without throwing the code.
