Massey Ferguson 00.1.40 – Dash (Instrument Panel) / EEM: CAN BUS Message Issue (Dash)

Communication failure on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. Specifically, the system is losing or failing to receive expected data messages between the dashboard and other control units on the network.

   Verify battery voltage stability and inspect main chassis grounds and controller power supply

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Dash and the EEM for chafing, vibration damage, or pinched wires

   Check the connectors at the back of the instrument panel and the EEM for moisture, corrosion, or loose/backed-out pins

   Perform a CAN bus resistance test at the diagnostic port with the battery disconnected (should read approximately 60 ohms)

   Disconnect Power

   Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on the CAN bus or removing modules.

   Clean and Reseat

   If corrosion or loose pins were found during diagnostics, clean the contacts with electronic contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and firmly reseat the connectors. Reconnect the battery and test if the code clears.

   Repair Wiring

   If a break or short is found in the harness, splice and solder the damaged CAN wires, sealing them with heat-shrink tubing to prevent moisture ingress.

   Replace the Dash

   If the wiring and EEM are verified to be intact and the Dash is internally failing to broadcast messages, the instrument panel must be replaced.

   Remove the Old Dash

   Remove the steering column shrouds and dashboard trim panels. Unscrew the mounting hardware holding the instrument cluster and carefully unplug the rear connectors.

   Install the New Dash

   Plug the connectors into the new OEM instrument panel, secure it with the mounting screws, and reassemble the trim.

   Reprogramming

   Note that a new instrument panel may require dealer calibration/programming via the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to sync the tractor's hours and configuration.
