Massey Ferguson 00.1.4B – Dash Module: Issue With Hand Throttle Circuit, Open Circuit (Dash)

The controller has detected a complete loss of electrical continuity (an open circuit) in the hand throttle sensor circuit. The electrical signal from the hand throttle potentiometer is missing, which prevents the operator from setting a constant engine speed using the hand control. This is typically caused by a disconnected plug, a broken wire in the harness, or a completely failed potentiometer.

   Visually inspect the electrical connector at the hand throttle potentiometer (located on the right-hand console or instrument binnacle) for loose pins, corrosion, or moisture.

   Trace the wiring harness from the hand throttle to the Dash module. Look for chafing, rub points, or broken wires that would cause an open circuit.

   Use a multimeter to check the resistance/voltage sweep of the hand throttle potentiometer. An open circuit reading (infinite resistance) across the sensor pins confirms the potentiometer has failed internally.

   Verify that the sensor is receiving its reference voltage and has a solid ground connection from the Dash module.

   Safety First

   Power down the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Access the Sensor

   Remove the trim panels on the right-hand console or instrument binnacle to expose the hand throttle assembly.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the hand throttle potentiometer.

   Remove Faulty Part

   Unbolt or unclip the faulty hand throttle potentiometer switch (or the entire hand throttle assembly, depending on how it is mounted on your specific model).

   Install New Part

   Mount the replacement potentiometer/throttle assembly and secure it in place.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the console trim panels.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and clear the fault codes via the Dash terminal. Test the hand throttle operation to ensure the engine speed responds smoothly and the code does not return.
