Issue description

The control module is receiving a voltage reading from the front axle steering sensor (Wheel Angle Sensor or WAS) that exceeds the expected normal operating range. A high voltage condition typically points to an open ground circuit, a short to power in the wiring harness, or an internal failure of the sensor itself.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the front axle steering sensor and the Dash module for any signs of chafing, melting, or a short to a power source.

  2. Check the sensor connector and the Dash module pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or loose connections.

  3. Verify the ground circuit. If ground interference is suspected (e.g., shared ground with front suspension coils causing wheel twitching), run a separate, dedicated ground to the stainless steel ground plate under the cab, not directly to the negative battery terminal.

  4. Test the sensor using a multimeter to verify the reference voltage reaching the sensor and check the signal return voltage while manually moving the steering to see if the sensor has an internal open circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Safely support the tractor

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

  2. Locate the sensor

    Find the Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS), which is typically mounted on a bracket on the right side behind the front axle.

  3. Disconnect the battery

    Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  4. Remove the sensor

    Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor. Remove the mounting screws or bolts holding the sensor and its linkage to the front axle.

  5. Install the new sensor

    Mount the replacement sensor to the bracket. Ensure the mechanical linkage (tie rod bracket or ball joints) is properly aligned so the sensor can accurately read the full sweep of the axle without binding.

  6. Reconnect and calibrate

    Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery. Depending on the tractor model and steering system, use the Dash Control Center or a dealer diagnostic tool to recalibrate the steering angle limits.

  7. Clear codes

    Clear the 00.1.5E fault code and test drive the tractor to ensure the steering signal voltage remains within normal parameters.
