Massey Ferguson 00.1.63 – Dash: Dash Internal Module Temperature Issue

Issue description

The internal temperature sensor within the dashboard/instrument cluster has detected a temperature that is outside of its safe operating parameters (typically an overheating condition). This can be caused by extreme ambient cab temperatures, an internal hardware failure within the cluster, excessive voltage causing components to run hot, or a failed internal temperature sensor.

Check the cause

  1. Cab Environment Check: Ensure the tractor has not been sitting in extreme direct sunlight with the windows closed, and verify that the cab heater is not blowing directly onto the back of the instrument cluster.

  2. Voltage Testing: Check the battery and alternator charging voltage. Overvoltage (e.g., a failing alternator regulator) can cause the internal electronics of the dash to draw excessive current and overheat.

  3. Ventilation & Debris: Inspect the dashboard housing for heavy dust accumulation or debris that might be insulating the module and preventing normal heat dissipation.

  4. Wiring Inspection: Check the wiring harness and connectors leading to the dash for any shorts to power or ground.

  5. Scan Tool Verification: Connect an AGCO diagnostic tool to monitor the live data for the Dash Module's internal temperature. If the reading is completely implausible (e.g., reading 150°C when the cab is cold), the internal sensor has failed.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery via the battery isolator switch to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Remove Trim

    Carefully remove the plastic steering column cowlings and dashboard trim panels surrounding the instrument cluster.

  3. Extract the Module

    Remove the retaining screws holding the instrument cluster in place.

  4. Disconnect Harnesses

    Carefully pull the dash module forward and disconnect the main CAN BUS and power wiring harnesses from the rear.

  5. Repair or Replace

    Because the temperature sensor is integrated into the internal circuit board of the dash, the unit cannot be serviced in the field. You must either send the unit to an agricultural electronics specialist (such as AGCO Reman or Ilgenfritz Mechatronics) for board-level repair, or replace it with a new/remanufactured unit.

  6. Reinstallation

    Connect the harnesses to the new/repaired dash, secure it with the retaining screws, and reinstall the trim.

  7. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 00.1.63 fault code. Verify that the live temperature data now reads normally.
