Massey Ferguson 00.1.71 – Dash Module: Dash Module Is Missing Information From The Engine Module On The CAN BUS System (Dash)

Communication failure on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. The instrument cluster is expecting regular data broadcasts (such as engine RPM, temperature, or oil pressure) from the Engine Control Module (ECM), but those messages are not arriving.

   Verify battery health, resting voltage, and alternator output, as low voltage is a primary cause of CAN bus communication dropouts.

   Check the fuse box for blown fuses or faulty relays that provide power to the Engine Control Module.

   Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the Engine Module and the Dash Module for chafed wires, pinch points, or shorts to ground.

   Disconnect the harnesses at the Dash and Engine ECU to check for corroded, backed-out, or bent pins, as well as moisture intrusion.

   With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins to ensure the terminating resistors are intact (a healthy CAN bus typically reads around 60 ohms).

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.

   Resolve Power Issues

   If any fuses supplying the Engine ECU or Dash are blown, replace them. If the battery is weak, charge or replace it.

   Repair Wiring

   If physical damage is found in the CAN bus harness (e.g., rubbed-through insulation), cut out the damaged section, solder in new wire, and seal it with marine-grade heat-shrink tubing.

   Clean Connections

   Apply electrical contact cleaner to the connectors at the Engine Module and Dash Module. Apply dielectric grease to the weather seals (not directly on the pins) to prevent future moisture ingress.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool (like the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool / FenDias) to clear the inactive fault codes.
