Issue description
The Controller Area Network (CAN) bus is the digital communication network connecting all electronic modules on the tractor. This code indicates that the Dash module is experiencing a communication failure. It means the module is either failing to send messages, missing expected messages from other controllers, or experiencing data corruption (often due to abnormal update rates or physical network interference). When CAN communication fails, the machine protects itself, which can result in warning lights, derated engine performance, or disabled hydraulic/transmission functions.

Check the cause
System Reboot: Perform a cold boot by disconnecting the battery, waiting a few minutes, and reconnecting it to see if the module resets and clears the passive/active error counts.
Voltage & Grounding Audit: Check the battery voltage during cranking. A weak battery, voltage drop, or poor cab grounding can cause the Dash module to temporarily brown-out and drop off the CAN network.
Wiring & Connector Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the back of the Dash. Look for chafed wiring, crushed harness sections, water ingress, or loose/corroded pins at the connector.
Termination Resistor Test: With the battery disconnected, use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic port. A healthy CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms (two 120-ohm terminating resistors in parallel). If it reads 120 ohms, a resistor is missing or a wire is broken.
Check for Cascading Codes: Look for other active codes. If multiple modules report CAN issues simultaneously, the fault is likely in the main bus wiring rather than the Dash itself.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Dash Module
Remove the steering column shrouds and trim panels required to access the rear of the instrument cluster.
Clean and Reseat
Disconnect the main harness connector(s) from the Dash. Spray the contacts with a high-quality electrical contact cleaner. Ensure no pins are pushed back into the connector housing. Reconnect firmly.
Harness Repair (If applicable)
If you found chafed CAN wires (usually a twisted pair of wires) during diagnosis, cut out the damaged section, solder in new wire, and seal with heat-shrink tubing. CAN wires must remain twisted to prevent electromagnetic interference.
Replace the Dash Module (If faulty)
If wiring, power, and grounds all test perfectly but the Dash still fails to communicate, the internal CAN transceiver in the Dash has likely failed. Remove the mounting screws, extract the old Dash, and install the replacement OEM unit.
Reprogramming
Note that a new instrument panel may require dealer calibration or programming (using the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool) to sync the tractor's configuration and hour meter.
