00.2.42

Massey Ferguson 00.2.42 – Dash (Instrument Cluster / Dashboard) module: Service Counter Issue

Issue description

This code is a maintenance reminder or software flag indicating that the tractor's internal service counter has reached its limit (scheduled maintenance is due) or there is a configuration glitch with the dash's maintenance tracking system.

Applies to these machines

Check the cause

  1. Verify Maintenance Schedule: Check the tractor's operating hours against the Operation & Maintenance Manual to confirm if a routine service interval (e.g., engine oil, hydraulic fluid, filters) has been reached.

  2. Check Dash Configuration: Verify if the System Information Screen (SIS) or dash settings have been altered or lost configuration, which can trigger related dash codes.

  3. Scan for Additional Codes: Use a diagnostic tool to check if there are accompanying CAN BUS or Dash configuration codes (like 00.02.43 or 00.02.44) that might indicate a communication failure rather than just a routine service reminder.

Repair steps

  1. Perform Required Maintenance

Complete any pending scheduled maintenance operations (e.g., changing engine oil, replacing air/fuel/hydraulic filters) as dictated by the tractor's current hour meter.

  2. Perform a Maintenance Reset

The service counter must be reset in the control unit. If the maintenance operations are completed but the alarm is not canceled, the warning message and code will remain active.

  3. Use a Diagnostic Tool

Connect a compatible commercial agricultural diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest AGV) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  4. Reset the Counter

Navigate to the Dash/Instrument Cluster module in the software and select the "Reset" function specifically for the control unit maintenance counters.

  5. Clear Fault Codes

Once the counter is reset, navigate to the fault code memory and clear code 00.02.42 from the system.

  6. Restore Factory Defaults (If Necessary)

If the dash configuration is corrupted, you may need to navigate through the tractor's System Information Screen (SIS) to restore the factory default settings for the performance monitor.
