Massey Ferguson 00.2.4A – Dash (Dashboard / Instrument Panel Module): CAN BUS Message Issue From EEM Engine Module (Dash)
Issue description
Communication failure on the Controller Area Network (CAN bus). The dashboard is failing to receive expected data messages (such as engine speed, temperature, or torque data) from the Electronic Engine Module (EEM). This can cause the machine to trigger warning lights, default to a derated state, or experience a no-start condition.

Check the cause
Verify the battery is fully charged and load-tested, and check for voltage drops during cranking.
Ensure the chassis and cab grounds are clean and tight.
With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance between CAN High and CAN Low at the diagnostic port (should read approximately 60 ohms).
With the key on, probe the CAN wires to verify CAN High reads approximately 2.5V to 3.5V and CAN Low reads approximately 1.5V to 2.5V.
Inspect the wiring harness running between the engine (EEM) and the cab (Dash) for chafed wiring, crushed sections, or water ingress.
Repair steps
Isolate the Network
Disconnect the battery. Locate the EEM (on the engine) and the Dash module (behind the instrument cluster).
Inspect Connectors
Unplug the connectors at both the EEM and the Dash. Look closely for pushed-back pins, loose terminals, or green corrosion caused by moisture. Clean any mild corrosion with electrical contact cleaner.
Perform a Continuity & Wiggle Test
Using a multimeter, check the continuity of the CAN High and CAN Low wires directly from the EEM connector to the Dash connector. While testing, physically wiggle the harness at flex points (like where it enters the cab) to detect intermittent breaks.
Repair Wiring
If a broken wire or short is found, splice and heat-shrink the damaged section of the twisted-pair CAN wiring, or replace the damaged connector pins.
Module Testing
Reconnect all plugs, restore battery power, and clear the fault codes using a diagnostic scan tool.
Module Replacement (If Necessary)
If the wiring, terminating resistors, and power/grounds test 100% perfectly but the code immediately returns, one of the modules has an internal failure. Replace the Dash module or EEM (requires an authorized dealer to program the new unit to the tractor's CAN network).
