Massey Ferguson 00.2.71 – Dash Module: Dash Module Is Missing Information From The Engine Module On The CAN BUS System (Dash)

Communication failure on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN BUS). The dashboard instrument cluster is expecting regular data packets (such as engine speed, temperature, or oil pressure) from the Engine Control Module (ECU), but those messages are not arriving. This is typically caused by a physical wiring issue, a loss of power to the Engine ECU, or a faulty module.

   Check all fuses and main relays that supply power and ground to the Engine ECU, as a dead ECU cannot broadcast CAN messages

   Visually inspect the CAN BUS wiring harness running between the Engine ECU and the cab/Dash Module for chafed wires, rodent damage, or pinched harnesses

   Inspect the multi-pin connectors at both the Dash Module and the Engine ECU for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins

   With the battery disconnected, use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins (should read approximately 60 ohms; 120 ohms indicates an open resistor or wiring segment)

   Disconnect the Battery

   Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on the CAN BUS or unplugging modules.

   Replace Blown Fuses/Relays

   If the Engine ECU power fuses are blown, replace them. If they blow again immediately, trace the ECU power wire for a short to ground.

   Clean and Reseat Connectors

   Apply a high-quality electrical contact cleaner to the pins of the Engine ECU and Dash Module connectors. Apply dielectric grease to the seals (not directly on the pins) and firmly reconnect them, ensuring the locking tabs click into place.

   Repair Wiring

   If a break or short is found in the CAN BUS twisted pair wiring, cut out the damaged section and solder in a new twisted pair of wires. Seal the repair with dual-wall adhesive heat shrink to keep moisture out.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and check if the dash successfully boots up and displays engine data.

   Module Replacement (If Necessary)

   If the wiring is perfectly intact and the Engine ECU has verified power and ground but still won't communicate, the Engine ECU or Dash Module has failed internally and will require replacement and dealer programming.
