Massey Ferguson 00.X.31 – Dash: Issue With Signal Voltage From Fuel Level Sensor

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the fuel tank sending unit that is out of the expected range (either too high, too low, or missing entirely). This typically points to an open circuit, a short to ground/power, or a completely failed fuel level sensor.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading from the Dash to the fuel level sensor on the fuel tank for rub points, chafing, or broken wires.

   Disconnect the sensor connector and inspect for corrosion, loose pins, or moisture ingress. Clean and reseat the connector to see if the code clears.

   Test the ground circuit of the sensor wiring to ensure it has a solid connection to the chassis.

   Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the fuel level sensor. If it reads as an open circuit (infinite resistance) regardless of fuel level, the sensor has failed internally.

   Check for reference voltage at the connector to ensure the Dash module is properly sending power to the sensor circuit.

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal

   to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the fuel level sensor (sending unit) on the fuel tank.

   Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor base

   to prevent dirt or debris from falling into the fuel tank when the sensor is removed.

   Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the sensor.

   Unscrew or unbolt the retaining ring/screws holding the sensor in place.

   Carefully pull the old fuel level sensor assembly out of the tank

   taking care not to bend the float arm or drop debris into the tank.

   Insert the new fuel level sensor

   ensuring the gasket/O-ring is properly seated to prevent fuel leaks.

   Secure the sensor with the retaining ring or bolts.

   Reconnect the electrical wiring harness.

    Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and verify the fuel gauge on the dash reads correctly.

    Clear the fault code using a diagnostic tool or by cycling the ignition.
