Check the cause
Verify Operating Hours: Check the tractor's total operating hours on the dash display and compare them against the factory-recommended service intervals (e.g., 250 hours for engine oil/fuel filters, 500 hours for hydraulic/transmission fluid and filters).
Check Maintenance History: Determine if the physical maintenance was recently performed but the technician forgot to reset the electronic counter.
Review the SIS: Check the System Information Screen (SIS) or Performance Monitor on the dash for specific service reminder prompts to see exactly which interval (engine, transmission, etc.) triggered the code.
Check for Accompanying Codes: Look for codes like 00.X.43 or 00.X.45 ('Problem With Dash Configuration'). If these are present, the dash module itself may have lost its configuration data.
Repair steps
Perform Scheduled Maintenance
Complete the required service based on the tractor's current hour meter (e.g., changing engine oil, hydraulic fluid, and replacing relevant filters).
Power the Dash
Turn the ignition key to the ON position without starting the engine.
Access the SIS
Use the navigation buttons on the console or steering column to access the dash control center / System Information Screen (SIS).
Navigate to Service Menu
Scroll through the menus to find the "Service" or "Maintenance" tab.
Reset the Counter
Select the specific service interval that has expired. Press and hold the "OK" or "Reset" button until the counter resets to zero or updates to the next interval target.
Cycle Ignition
Turn the ignition key off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on to verify the 00.X.42 fault code has cleared from the active DTC list.
Dealer Intervention
If the code cannot be cleared manually through the dash, or if the dash configuration is corrupted, a dealer must connect the Massey Ferguson Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to reflash or reconfigure the dash module.
