Massey Ferguson 00.X.47 – Dash: Forward/Reverse Lever Neutral Position Switch Issue
Issue description
The system is receiving an implausible, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal from the neutral position switch located on the Power Control lever (the left-hand forward/reverse shuttle lever). When this fault occurs, the tractor's safety systems may prevent the engine from cranking or prevent the transmission from engaging, as the controller cannot verify if the tractor is safely in neutral.

Check the cause
Check for related codes like 00.X.48 or CAN BUS communication errors (00.X.49, 00.X.4A) to rule out a broader network failure
Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the base of the Power Control lever on the steering column for chafed wires, loose pins, or corrosion
Use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity, verifying if it properly opens and closes when the lever is moved in and out of the neutral position
Observe the dashboard to see if the neutral indicator light illuminates when the lever is physically in the neutral position
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Access the Switch
Remove the plastic shrouds/panels around the steering column and dashboard to expose the base of the left-hand Power Control (Forward/Reverse) lever.
Disconnect the Harness
Unplug the electrical connector from the lever's switch assembly.
Remove the Assembly
Depending on the model, the neutral switch may be integrated into the lever assembly itself. Unbolt the lever assembly or unclip the standalone switch from the mounting bracket.
Install the New Part
Mount the new switch or complete Power Control lever assembly and secure the fasteners.
Reassemble
Reconnect the electrical harness, reinstall the steering column shrouds, and reconnect the battery.
Test
Turn the key to the ON position, verify the dash registers the neutral position, and start the tractor to ensure the fault code is cleared.
