Massey Ferguson 00.X.4C – Dash / Dashboard Module: Issue With Signal From Outside Air Temperature Sensor (Dash)

The system has detected an invalid signal (voltage too high, too low, open circuit, or short circuit) coming from the ambient/outside air temperature sensor. This sensor is an NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) thermistor that provides ambient temperature data to the dashboard display and climate control systems.

   Visually inspect the outside air temperature sensor (located inside the driver's side mirror housing or near the front cab/grille) and its 2-pin oval connector for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading from the sensor to the Dash module for chafing or pinches that could cause a short to ground, a short to positive, or an open circuit.

   Measure the resistance across the two pins of the sensor using a multimeter. It should read approximately 5000 Ohms (5kΩ) at room temperature. If it reads completely open (infinite resistance) or shorted (zero resistance), the sensor has failed internally.

   Access the Sensor

   If located in the side mirror housing, carefully adjust the mirror glass to access the internal clips, or remove the mirror housing cover (use a step ladder for safe reaching). Handle the mirror glass with care to avoid breaking it or tearing the heating element wires.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the 2-pin oval electrical connector from the ambient air temperature sensor.

   Remove

   The sensor is typically a press-fit or clip-in component. Gently pry or pull the old sensor out of its mounting bracket.

   Install

   Press the new sensor into the mounting location until it clicks or seats firmly.

   Reconnect

   Plug the 2-pin electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal is intact.

   Reassemble & Clear

   Reinstall the mirror glass or housing cover. Turn the tractor key to the ON position, verify the outside temperature is now displaying correctly on the dash, and clear the inactive 00.X.4C fault code using the dash menu or a diagnostic tool.
