Massey Ferguson 00.X.54 – Dash: Issue With Signal Voltage From Air Brake pressure Sensor (Dash)

Issue description

The controller is receiving an irregular, out-of-range, or missing electrical signal voltage from the air brake pressure sensor, which monitors the pneumatic pressure in the tractor's trailer air brake system.

Check the cause

  1. Locate the air brake pressure sensor on the pneumatic brake circuit. Inspect the sensor housing for physical damage or air leaks.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading from the sensor to the Dash module. Look for chafed wires, pinched lines, or melted insulation that could cause a short circuit to ground or a short to VCC (battery voltage).

  3. Disconnect the sensor and check the electrical connector for corrosion, moisture ingress, or bent pins. Ensure the sensor is securely plugged in, as a disconnected sensor will trigger this voltage error.

  4. Using a multimeter, verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) and has a solid ground. Check the signal return wire for continuity back to the Dash module.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

    Before removing the sensor, safely bleed all compressed air from the tractor's air brake reservoirs to prevent injury.

  2. Disconnect the Battery

    Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to protect the Dash module from voltage spikes.

  3. Remove the Sensor

    Unplug the electrical connector from the air brake pressure sensor. Use a wrench to unthread the sensor from the air brake manifold/valve block.

  4. Install the New Sensor

    Apply a thread sealant (if not already pre-applied to the new sensor) and thread the new sensor into the port. Tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque—do not overtighten, as this can crack the manifold or sensor body.

  5. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor until the locking tab clicks. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Test and Clear Codes

    Start the tractor and allow the air compressor to build system pressure. Check for air leaks around the new sensor with soapy water. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 00.X.54 fault code from the Dash module and verify that the dashboard air pressure gauges read correctly.
