CAN BUS communication failure. The dashboard is not receiving the expected data packets (such as engine RPM, temperature, or oil pressure) broadcasted by the Engine Control Unit (ECU).

   Battery and Voltage Check: Ensure the battery is fully charged and load-tested. Weak batteries or voltage drops during cranking can cause modules to temporarily drop off the CAN network, triggering this code.

   Visual Wiring Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running between the Engine ECU and the cab/Dash Module. Look for rub points, chafing, or melted insulation.

   Connector Inspection: Disconnect the harnesses at the Dash Module and the Engine ECU. Inspect for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress.

   CAN Bus Resistance Test: With the battery disconnected, use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic port. A healthy CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms (this indicates two 120-ohm terminating resistors are present and the wiring is intact). If it reads ~120 ohms, there is an open circuit in the wiring or a missing/failed terminating resistor. If it reads near 0 ohms, the CAN lines are shorted together.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical damage during repairs.

   Isolate the Fault

   Based on the resistance test, locate the break or short in the CAN harness between the Engine ECU and the Dash.

   Repair Wiring

   If a damaged wire is found, repair it using proper soldering techniques and marine-grade heat-shrink tubing, or replace the affected harness section.

   Address Terminating Resistors

   If the resistance test showed 120 ohms and the wiring is intact, locate and replace the faulty CAN terminating resistor.

   Clean Connections

   Clean all connector pins at the ECU and Dash with electrical contact cleaner. Apply a light coat of dielectric grease and securely reconnect them.

   Test the System

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position.

   Clear Codes

   Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 00.X.71 fault code.

   Verify

   Start the tractor and verify that the dashboard gauges (RPM, temp) are functioning correctly and the code does not return. (Note: If the wiring is perfectly intact and the code persists, the Engine ECU may not be broadcasting, or the Dash Module has failed internally. This requires dealer-level software diagnostics or module replacement).
