Massey Ferguson 00.X.72 – Dash Module: Dash Module Is Missing Information From The Transmission Module On The CAN BUS System (Dash)

CAN bus communication between the transmission control unit and the dashboard has been interrupted, and the dash is no longer receiving expected data packets (such as speed, gear selection, or transmission status) from the transmission module.

   Check for accompanying codes (e.g., 00.X.70, 00.X.71, 00.X.73) that might indicate a broader CAN bus failure or a total loss of power to the Transmission Module

   Verify battery voltage is stable and check the main grounding points for the cab and transmission

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting the Transmission Module to the Dash Module for chafing, pinched wires, or moisture ingress

   With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic port (should read approximately 60 ohms)

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during testing.

   Inspect Connectors

   Locate the Transmission Module and the Dash Module. Disconnect the main harness connectors at both modules.

   Clean and Reseat

   Inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins (a common cause of intermittent CAN faults). Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

   Test Harness Continuity

   Using a multimeter, test the continuity of the CAN High and CAN Low wires from the Transmission Module connector to the Dash Module connector. Repair any open circuits or shorts to ground.

   Verify Module Power

   Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position. Verify that the Transmission Module is receiving proper ignition power and ground. If the module is dead, it cannot broadcast messages to the dash.

   Software Update / Module Replacement

   If the wiring, power, and grounds are all intact, the issue may be a software glitch or an internal hardware failure. The tractor may require a controlled software update via the Massey Ferguson EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool). If updates fail, the Transmission Module or Dash Module will need to be replaced.
