Massey Ferguson 004.00.04 – TRANS / Dash: Issue With Signal Voltage From Clutch Pedal Sensor

The control unit is receiving an electrical signal from the clutch pedal potentiometer that is out of the expected operating range. This is typically caused by a short to power, an open circuit, a damaged wiring harness, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the clutch pedal sensor for rub points, pinched wires, or damage.

   Inspect the sensor connector (located under the dash at the pedal pivot) for moisture, dirt intrusion, or corroded pins.

   Check mechanical adjustment to ensure the sensor has not vibrated loose and simply needs mechanical repositioning.

   Use a multimeter to test the sensor's voltage sweep. The voltage should change smoothly as the pedal is depressed. If the voltage spikes to maximum immediately or drops out (dead spots), the potentiometer has failed internally.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the Sensor

   Access the clutch pedal pivot assembly, typically located under the dashboard inside the cab.

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical harness plug from the sensor. Remove the mounting screws/hardware holding the sensor to the pedal bracket.

   Install the New Sensor

   Mount the replacement potentiometer in the exact orientation as the original. Secure the mounting hardware and plug in the electrical connector.

   Calibration

   After replacing the clutch pedal sensor, the tractor's computer must learn the new minimum (pedal up) and maximum (pedal down) travel values. You will need to perform a clutch pedal calibration sequence (either via the dash menu or using a dealer diagnostic tool) to restore smooth clutch engagement and clear the code.
