Check the cause
Check power and ground to verify that the TECU is receiving the correct operating voltage, as undervoltage or overvoltage conditions can cause the module to deactivate.
Perform a CAN bus communication check using a diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest or AGCO EDT) to verify that CAN messages are being transmitted and received properly.
Inspect the TECU wiring harness junctions (e.g., pillar harness/TECU harness junction) for short circuits to ground (0 V) or to power (12 V).
Attempt to clear the fault code memory and retest to see if the code is immediately detected again by the ECU.
Repair steps
De-energize the Machine
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Locate and Remove the TECU
Locate the TECU module (often located in the cab pillar or under the right-hand console depending on the specific series). Disconnect the multi-pin wiring harnesses from the module.
Dismount the Module
Remove the mounting hardware securing the TECU and extract the faulty unit.
Install the New TECU
Mount the replacement TECU and securely reconnect all wiring harnesses.
Restore Power
Reconnect the tractor's battery.
Programming and Calibration
Connect a compatible diagnostic tool (like Jaltest or AGCO EDT) to copy configurations and parameters to the new control unit. You must also calibrate the system components (such as electronic suspensions, auxiliary valves, and transmission settings) for correct operation.
Final Verification
Clear any remaining fault codes and perform a functional test of the tractor to ensure code 03.00.85 does not return.
Parts you might need
