Check the cause

  1. Clear the fault code memory and cycle the key to verify if the code immediately returns as a hard fault

  2. Verify the power supply and ground to the TECU, specifically checking the battery positive terminal contact (X465) and earth/ground connections (X463 Isobus earth) for voltage irregularities

  3. Inspect the main harness junctions connecting to the TECU, including connector X104 (Autotronic 5 TECU) and X461 (Pillar harness/TECU harness junction), for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture ingress

  4. Verify CAN bus communication by checking for secondary codes indicating missing CAN messages or 'ISO address not found', which points to a wiring issue rather than a failed module

Repair steps

  1. De-energize the Machine

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery isolator to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate and Remove the TECU

Access the Autotronic 5 TECU (location varies slightly by cab configuration, often found under the right-hand console or behind the pillar trim). Disconnect the multi-pin harness connectors (X104, X461, etc.).

  3. Install the New Module

Mount the replacement TECU and securely reconnect all harnesses.

  4. Restore Power

    Reconnect the battery isolator.

  5. Programming and Parameter Configuration

Using an authorized diagnostic tool, copy the configurations and parameters from the old control unit (if readable) or program the new unit to match the tractor's specific build (transmission type, hydraulic options, etc.).

  6. System Calibrations

Perform technical release calibrations for the systems managed by the TECU. This typically includes cab suspension calibration, suspended front axle calibration, and transmission/clutch calibrations.

  7. Final Test

Clear all historical fault codes and test-drive the tractor to ensure the 03.01.85 code does not return and all auxiliary functions operate correctly.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Tractor Electronic Control Unit (TECU) / Autotronic 5 Module

    700730581

Part numbers vary heavily depending on the exact series, transmission type (Dyna-4, Dyna-6, Dyna-VT), and cab configuration. Always verify the exact part number against the tractor's VIN/Serial Number through an AGCO parts dealer before ordering.

  • Tractor Electronic Control Unit (TECU) / Autotronic 5 Module
