Massey Ferguson 03.01.9A – TECU: High Amp Draw On Auxiliary Valve Switch 8 (TECU)
Issue description
The system has detected that the electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the circuit for Auxiliary Valve Switch 8 is exceeding the normal operating threshold. This typically indicates a short circuit to ground, a failing switch with internal resistance issues, damaged wiring, or a faulty solenoid/relay on that specific circuit.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness running from the armrest/joystick console to the TECU for chafed, pinched, or melted wires that could be shorting to the tractor's chassis (ground)
Disconnect the harness at Auxiliary Valve Switch 8 and at the TECU to inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent terminals
Test the switch for internal shorts by checking the resistance across the switch terminals while toggling it
Check the wiring harness for continuity to ground; if the wire shows continuity to the chassis when disconnected at both ends, there is a short in the harness
If the switch and wiring are intact, check the auxiliary valve solenoid itself, as a failing solenoid coil can draw excessive amperage
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Access the Switch
Locate Auxiliary Valve Switch 8. Depending on the model, this may be integrated into the multi-function pilot control joystick or located on the side armrest console. Carefully remove the console trim to access the switch wiring.
Replace or Repair
If the wiring is damaged: Repair the damaged section of the harness using proper automotive-grade heat-shrink connectors, or replace the harness section if severely damaged. If the switch is faulty: Unplug the connector, unclip or unscrew the switch from the console, and install the replacement switch.
Reassemble
Reconnect the wiring harness and reinstall the console trim.
Restore Power
Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
Clear Fault Codes
Use a compatible diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest or the tractor's onboard diagnostic display) to clear the 03.01.9A fault code from the TECU memory.
Test Operation
Start the tractor and operate Auxiliary Valve 8 to ensure the function is restored and the fault code does not return.
Parts you might need
(3)Auxiliary Valve Switch (Push Button / Rocker)
Generic part name. (e.g., Switch, Push Button / Knob, Auxiliary Valve Control Lever).
Multi-Function Joystick Assembly
If the switch is integrated and cannot be serviced separately, the entire joystick assembly may need replacement.
