Massey Ferguson 03.01.9E – MFA (Multifunction Armrest): Issue With Hand Throttle On Arm Rest Signal Voltage
Issue description
The electronic signal voltage coming from the hand throttle potentiometer is outside of the expected operating range. This is typically caused by a short circuit to ground (0V), a short circuit to power (12V), a failed potentiometer, or a loss of calibration.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the hand throttle potentiometer inside the armrest for chafing, pinched wires, or loose pins.
Voltage Test: Use a multimeter to check the signal wire from the potentiometer. Look for a dead short to ground (0V) or a short to the supply voltage (12V).
Calibration Check: Before replacing parts, attempt to recalibrate the hand throttle (calibration code 4002) using the tractor's terminal display or the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT).
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the tractor ignition, apply the parking brake, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Potentiometer
Carefully remove the retaining screws and lift the cover of the Multifunction Armrest (MFA) console to expose the internal joystick and throttle controls.
Removal
Locate the hand throttle potentiometer. Disconnect its electrical harness connector. Remove the mounting screws or retaining clips holding the sensor to the throttle lever assembly.
Installation
Install the new OEM potentiometer in the exact orientation as the old one. Secure the mounting hardware and reconnect the electrical harness.
Reassembly
Reinstall the armrest cover and secure all panel screws. Reconnect the tractor's battery.
Calibration
Turn the ignition ON. You must calibrate the new sensor so the MFA learns the new voltage limits. Enter the diagnostic/calibration menu on the tractor's display (or via AGCO EDT). Follow the on-screen prompts to move the hand throttle to its absolute minimum position and save/confirm, then move it to its absolute maximum position and save/confirm. Cycle the ignition key to the '0' position to store the settings.
