03.01.9F

Massey Ferguson 03.01.9F – MFA (Multi-Function Armrest): Issue With Hitch Depth Control Dial On Armrest Signal Voltage (MFA)

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the signal voltage coming from the hitch depth control dial (potentiometer) located on the tractor's armrest is out of the expected range. This typically means the controller is seeing a voltage that is either too high, too low, or erratic, which prevents the system from accurately determining the operator's desired rear hitch depth setting.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading from the hitch depth control dial to the MFA module for pinched wires, chafing inside the armrest housing, or loose connector pins.

  2. Using a multimeter, verify that the dial is receiving a steady 5V reference signal and a solid ground from the MFA module.

  3. Back-probe the signal wire at the dial and slowly turn the hitch depth dial from minimum to maximum. The voltage should sweep smoothly (typically between 0.5V and 4.5V).

  4. Check the continuity of the signal wire from the dial connector directly to the MFA module harness to ensure there is no open or short circuit in the armrest wiring.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Disassemble the Armrest

Carefully remove the retaining screws on the underside or perimeter of the Multi-Function Armrest console to lift the top cover/switch panel.

  3. Disconnect the Dial

Locate the hitch depth control dial on the underside of the panel. Unplug its electrical connector.

  4. Remove the Faulty Dial

Remove the retaining nut, clips, or screws holding the dial assembly to the armrest plastic molding and pull the dial out.

  5. Install the New Part

Seat the new hitch depth control dial into the panel and secure it with its retaining hardware.

  6. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical connector, carefully route the wiring so it will not be pinched, and reinstall the armrest cover.

  7. Reconnect Battery & Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery. Use an AGCO EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) or a compatible heavy-duty scanner (like Jaltest) to clear the 03.01.9F fault code from the MFA module.

  8. Calibration

Depending on the exact tractor series, you may need to run a calibration routine for the armrest controls via the diagnostic tool or the tractor's Datatronic terminal to ensure the MFA module learns the new dial's minimum and maximum voltage values.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Hitch Depth Control Dial / Potentiometer (Armrest)

OEM part numbers for individual armrest potentiometers are often restricted to dealer parts catalogs (AGCO Parts Books). In many cases, AGCO does not sell the dial individually and requires the replacement of the sub-panel or the entire MFA switch cluster.
