Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading from the Multi-Function Armrest (MFA) to the hitch depth control dial for any visible damage, chafing, or pinched wires.
Disconnect the dial's connector and check for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins that could cause high resistance or a short circuit.
Using a multimeter, verify that the MFA module is supplying the correct reference voltage and a solid ground to the potentiometer.
Measure the signal voltage or resistance of the hitch depth control dial while slowly turning it. The reading should change smoothly without any drop-outs, dead spots, or short circuits to ground. If the signal is outside its operating range or erratic, the dial is faulty.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Access the Armrest
Carefully remove the necessary trim panels or covers on the Multi-Function Armrest to access the internal control dials and wiring.
Disconnect the Dial
Unplug the electrical connector specifically routed to the hitch depth control potentiometer.
Remove the Faulty Component
Unbolt or unclip the faulty hitch depth control dial from its mounting position in the armrest console.
Install the New Part
Seat the new OEM potentiometer into the armrest and secure it.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new dial, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
Reassemble
Reinstall all armrest trim panels and covers.
Test and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn on the tractor, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 03.01.A0 fault code. Test the rear hitch depth control dial to confirm the hitch responds correctly and the code does not return.
