Massey Ferguson 03.02.19 – MFA (Multifunction Armrest): CAN Bus Message From Joystick Controls On Arm Rest (MFA)

The control module is no longer receiving data messages from the joystick controls located on the tractor's armrest, resulting in a loss of joystick functionality for auxiliary valves or transmission controls.

   Inspect the wiring harness that runs from the joystick assembly to the MFA module inside the armrest for any signs of chafing, pinching, or broken wires.

   Disconnect the multi-pin connectors at the joystick and the MFA module to check for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress.

   Verify that the joystick is receiving its required operating voltage and has a solid ground connection.

   Using a multimeter, check the CAN High and CAN Low lines for continuity between the joystick and the MFA module, and check for shorts to ground or power.

   Connect a compatible diagnostic tool (such as AGCO EDT or Jaltest) to monitor live data and confirm if the MFA is registering any inputs from the joystick.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.

   Access the Armrest

   Carefully remove the plastic trim panels and covers on the Multifunction Armrest to expose the joystick mounting hardware and wiring.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or damaged connector pin, repair the harness using OEM-approved splicing methods or replace the connector pigtail.

   Replace the Joystick (If Faulty)

   If the wiring and power supplies are intact, the joystick's internal CAN transceiver has likely failed. Disconnect the electrical connector from the joystick. Unbolt the joystick assembly from the armrest chassis and install the new unit.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place. Reinstall all armrest trim panels.

   Reconnect Power

   Reconnect the tractor's battery.

   Calibration and Code Clearing

   Connect the AGCO EDT (or equivalent diagnostic tool). Clear the inactive 03.02.19 fault code from the MFA module's memory. You must then perform a Joystick Calibration procedure via the diagnostic tool so the MFA module can learn the new joystick's center and maximum travel positions.
