Check the cause

  1. Check Power Supply: Verify the voltage reaching the TECU (must not be <11V or >16V) and ensure a stable 10-volt supply from the TECU.

  2. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Check the main harnesses connecting to the Autotronic 5 TECU. Specifically, inspect connector X104 (Armrest Autotronic 5) and X461 (Pillar harness/TECU harness junction) for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture.

  3. Verify CAN Bus Communication: Use a diagnostic tool to check for missing CAN messages from the keypad or armrest.

  4. Check ISO Address & VIN: Ensure the TECU is broadcasting the correct ISO address and that the Vehicle Electronic Identification (VIN) matches.

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Plug in a compatible diagnostic scanner to the tractor's ISOBUS/diagnostic port (Connector X183/X184).

  2. Read and Clear Codes

Read the ECU failure memory to see if 03.02.81 is accompanied by specific voltage or CAN bus codes. Clear the memory; if the code immediately returns, the fault is active.

  3. Repair Wiring

If diagnostic tests reveal a short or open circuit at connector X104 or X461, repair the damaged wiring harness.

  4. Replace the TECU

If the wiring is intact, power is stable, and the module still fails to communicate or throws internal errors, the Autotronic 5 TECU must be replaced.

  5. Module Programming and Calibration

Use the diagnostic tool to copy parameters to the new control unit. Perform technical calibrations for the systems the TECU manages, which may include the cab suspension calibration, front axle suspension calibration, and transmission/clutch pedal calibrations.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Autotronic 5 TECU (Tractor Electronic Control Unit)

Varies strictly by tractor model, transmission type (Dyna-4/6/VT), and cab configuration. Ensure the replacement module matches the specific transmission and linkage configuration of the tractor. Aftermarket modules are generally not recommended.
