03.02.86

Massey Ferguson 03.02.86 – TECU: High Amp Draw On Auxiliary Valve Switch 3 (TECU)

Issue description

The control module is detecting an excessive current draw on the circuit for the third auxiliary hydraulic valve switch, typically caused by a short circuit 0 V (a short to ground).

Check the cause

  1. Inspect Auxiliary Valve Switch 3 on the armrest (FingerTIP controls or joystick) for physical damage, sticking, or liquid intrusion.

  2. Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to check the signal wire leading back to the TECU for continuity to ground (0V).

  3. Inspect the wiring harness junction at the TECU and the armrest harness junction for pinched wires, rubbed insulation, or bent pins.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery negative terminal to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Access the Switch

Remove the armrest console cover to access the wiring for the auxiliary valve switches.

  3. Isolate the Fault

If the wiring harness tested positive for a short to ground while the switch was disconnected, trace the harness back to the TECU and repair the damaged section of the wire. If the wiring harness is clear but the switch itself shows continuity between the power/signal pin and ground when it shouldn't, the switch has failed internally.

  4. Replace the Component

Swap out the faulty Auxiliary Valve Switch 3 (or repair the harness).

  5. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest or the onboard display) to clear the stored 03.02.86 fault code.

  6. Test Operation

Actuate Auxiliary Valve 3 to ensure the high amp draw code does not return and the hydraulics respond correctly.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Auxiliary Valve Switch / FingerTIP Control

Exact part number depends heavily on the specific armrest configuration of the tractor model.

  • TECU (Tractor Electronic Control Unit)

    7102493M1

The TECU should only be replaced if the switch and wiring harness both test perfectly fine, indicating an internal short within the module itself.

  • TECU (Tractor Electronic Control Unit)

    700730581

The TECU should only be replaced if the switch and wiring harness both test perfectly fine, indicating an internal short within the module itself.
