03.02.A3

Massey Ferguson 03.02.A3 – TECU: Issue With TECU Module (TECU)

Issue description

This code is logged against the TECU (Tractor Electronic Control Unit), which is frequently referred to in Massey Ferguson service literature as the Autotronic 5 - TECU. This module is a central computer responsible for managing the transmission, suspension management system (active cab and front axle suspension), and ADAS systems.

Check the cause

  1. Check Power and Ground: Verify the voltage supply to the TECU at the main harness connections, specifically at the X104 connector, to ensure output voltage is within the acceptable range.

  2. Verify CAN Bus Communication: Check for missing CAN messages between the TECU, the armrest keypad, and the instrument cluster.

  3. Check Vehicle Identification: Ensure there is no 'VIN Error' (Vehicle electronic identification incorrect), which indicates the TECU lost its programming or failed to communicate its ISO address.

  4. Read Live Data: Use a diagnostic tool to read the ECU failure memory and monitor live values from connected sensors to see if a shorted sensor is pulling down the module's reference voltage.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery positive terminal contact (referenced as X465 in the harness diagrams) before servicing electronic components.

  2. Locate the TECU

Depending on the exact tractor model, the Autotronic 5 TECU is typically located in the right-hand cab pillar or under the right-hand console/armrest.

  3. Remove the Module

Carefully disconnect the main wiring harnesses (including the X104 connector and Isobus CAN connectors). Unbolt the module from its mounting bracket.

  4. Install the New TECU

Mount the replacement Autotronic 5 module and securely reconnect all harness junctions.

  5. Module Calibration

A new TECU is not plug-and-play. You must use a diagnostic tool to calibrate the systems managed by the TECU. According to the service manual, if the Autotronic 5 is replaced, you must perform calibrations such as determining the values of the upper and lower suspension stops. If no calibration value is stored, the Autotronic 5 will display an error (e.g., Error 11) and function improperly.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • TECU Module / Autotronic 5 Controller

    700730581

AGCO Parts - TECU MODULE. TECU modules are highly specific to the tractor's transmission (e.g., Dyna-4, Dyna-6, Dyna-VT) and suspension options. Always verify the exact part number against the tractor's serial number through an AGCO dealer before ordering.
